Community-based research (CBR) is gaining in popularity in the health sciences. While this approach can empower communities with practical knowledge, it can raise complex issues relating to ethics, ownership of data and publication rights.

This core offers researchers training and support to successfully undertake studies using this exciting, novel approach.

Services include:

• Matching researchers with community partners;
• Providing training in CBR: its purpose, processes, benefits and potential pitfalls;
• Facilitating the development of mutually beneficial research agendas based on community-based research questions;
• Assisting in the development of project decision-making and governance structures; and
• Providing grant and ethics consultation and review, research design consultations, budgeting advice, data collection and recruitment expertise, and knowledge translation assistance.
